Hidden Brilliance

Hidden Brilliance is a discussion of the narrow televisual representations of POC kids and teens.  It explores what the social ramifications of such limited representations are (with respect to lower educational attainment) but it also discusses identity politics and how these televisual representations become consumed as “authentic” portrayals which function to “squeeze” out kids who engage in things like snowboarding, classical music, science, etc.  Kids who engage in activities not seen as “authentic” have their identities questioned and endure sanctioning.  This film will profile real kids engaged in “extraordinary” pursuits and juxtapose these images against televisual images.
